Introduction to Signal
Understand what Signal is, what it can help you do, and the quickest way to get useful work from it.
Introduction to Signal
Signal helps commercial teams turn a question into an evidence-backed decision. You can ask a quick question in Chat, give Signal a larger piece of analysis as a Task, connect business data and reference material, and share the finished result.
The basic workflow#
Most work in Signal follows the same loop:
- Start with the decision. Say what you need to understand or decide, not only the output you want.
- Give Signal the right evidence. Point to connected data, attach a file, or reference earlier work when it matters.
- Describe the outcome in Work. Chat can inspect evidence and answer, or start a Task for fresh analysis and an answer or deliverable.
- Review the result. Check the cited sources, assumptions, scope, and comparison period.
- Continue or share. Ask a follow-up, export the output, collaborate with a teammate, or publish a completed report to your workspace.
What you can do#
- Ask questions about Signal, commercial best practice, uploaded knowledge, and work your team has already completed.
- Run multi-step commercial analysis across data available to your workspace.
- Create interactive outputs, written reports, and slide-style readouts.
- Add files and reference previous Tasks as context.
- Keep important dates in a shared commercial calendar.
- Publish findings to the workspace and share reports with the right audience.
What makes a good first request#
Include the business question, the scope, the time period, and the decision the answer should support.
Analyse margin leakage by retailer and brand for the last quarter, compared with the same quarter last year. Identify the three largest opportunities and recommend what the commercial director should do next.
You do not need to know where every dataset lives before you begin. If the question needs fresh analysis, ask in Work Chat and add the evidence you already know about. Signal can ask for clarification when a critical detail is missing.
Before you begin#
You need a Signal account and access to at least one workspace. A workspace is a separate organisation or business unit with its own people, data, knowledge, Chats, and Tasks.
If you cannot sign in or no workspace appears, contact your workspace administrator or Signal contact. See Troubleshooting for common access problems.
