Request a Task in Work
A Task is work Signal carries out beyond a quick Chat response. It can calculate over workspace data, research external sources, and produce either an answer or a durable deliverable.
Start a Task from Work#
Open Work, choose Chat, and describe what you need. Signal can start the Task in the same conversation. You do not need to move to a separate Tasks composer.
A useful brief includes the business decision, market or customer, category, period and comparison, intended audience, and any important definitions or exclusions. Use Add context to attach files or reference earlier Tasks.
For example: "Analyse margin leakage by retailer and brand for the last quarter compared with the same quarter last year. Focus on UK grocery, identify the largest opportunities, and make slides for the commercial director."
Choose the result you need#
Say whether you want an answer in the conversation or an output to keep. Reports suit detailed reasoning; decks suit meetings; dashboards suit exploring results. Signal may ask for a format when your request leaves it unclear.
A completed Task does not always have a report canvas. An answer-only Task returns its findings to the conversation. Ask a follow-up to turn those findings into a report if you need one.
See Review and improve Task results for progress, follow-ups, and versions.
