Frequently asked questions
What is a workspace?#
A workspace is an isolated organisation or business unit in Signal. Its people, data, knowledge, Chats, Tasks, settings, and reports are separate from other workspaces.
Can people in another workspace see my work?#
No. They need access to the same workspace and, for private work, the specific item. External report links expose one read-only report version under the link's access rules; they do not expose the workspace.
Does Chat calculate against live data?#
Chat can inspect registered data and preview up to 50 rows. Ask for a Task when you need whole-dataset calculations, joined analysis, external research, monitoring, or a durable output. Signal can start that Task in the same conversation.
How do I know where an answer came from?#
Review citations and source notes in the answer or report. Ask Signal to identify the supporting file, Task, or dataset when it is unclear. Treat an uncited statement as guidance or reasoning until you verify it.
Can I attach a file without adding it to Data or Knowledge?#
Yes. Attach it directly to a Chat or Task when it is context for that piece of work. Add it to Data when it should become structured, repeatable input; add it to Knowledge when it should become reusable reference material.
Why is a connected file not available in analysis yet?#
Receiving a file is only the first step. It may still be analysing, waiting for review, importing, or waiting for modelled outputs. Check its status and timeline in Received files.
Who can change shared settings or approve data changes?#
Workspace administrators manage organisation settings, branding, sharing policy, users, team destinations, and governed data decisions. Ordinary members can create Chats and Tasks, upload files, use shared features, and manage their own Profile.
What is the difference between sharing and publishing?#
Sharing grants named teammates access to a chat or report. Publishing makes a finished deliverable discoverable across the workspace in Work Explore. Its conversation stays private unless shared separately. Neither action makes a report public on the internet.
Can I send a report to someone without a Signal account?#
If your workspace policy permits it, create an external report link. Choose a domain-restricted link when possible, confirm the expiry and version, and revoke the link when it is no longer needed.
Can I change a published Task?#
Continue the work in its conversation and review the resulting version. You can remove a deliverable from Explore using its Published menu; this does not revoke collaborators or external links.
Can I recover a deleted Chat?#
No. Chat deletion is permanent. Rename or share important work rather than deleting it.
What should I include when asking for help?#
Include the workspace, affected Task or file name, approximate time, what you expected, what happened, and the exact visible error. Do not include passwords, tokens, secrets, or confidential file contents unless your approved support process requests them securely.
